Abstract Predicting what we will remember and forget is crucial for daily functioning. We were interested in whether evaluating something as likely to be remembered or forgotten leads enhanced memory both forms of information relative that was not judged memorability. presented participants with lists words a later test on each list, asked identify some they confident would believed most the test. Relative given prediction, selected but also indicated forgotten. examined requiring engage self-cued directed forgetting by selecting subset produced advantage these words.
